| Wheel of Brisbane Tip |
| Have a Wheely Wheely good time in Brisbane! It’s the city’s newest attraction – a gigantic wheel located right on the water at Southbank. Now, this is not just any wheel… I mean you can’t necessarily roll it around; you definitely can’t bounce it; you can’t play tennis with it; and you most certainly, can’t try and ride it…. Or can you? This particular wheel sits 60 metres high off the ground and believe it or not, it’s air-conditioned. Holding up to 336 passengers, The Wheel of Brisbane, as it has been aptly been named, is rivalling the Story Bridge Climb as the best adventure attraction in Brisbane… and what a view! Stretching across the city skyline, along the Brisbane River and taking in the colourful atmosphere of Southbank, it’s a view worth the $15 to get up there. The journey lasts approximately 15 minutes, giving you enough time to get your bearings of the city, take a few pictures, and even propose to your girlfriend, (believe it or not, people have done this exact thing on The London Eye, England’s version of The Wheel of Brisbane). It was designed by the same fellows who invented the London Eye, and as far as I know it’s a hit – so this one will surely be! The Wheel is ideally located, so we would suggest once you check in, run straight down to the wheel and go straight up in the air. It is open 7 days a week, so there’s no excuse. Sunset is the ideal time to give it a go with the horizon lighting up like josephs’ technicolour dream-coat. As you go round and round you’ll be able to pick out Brisbane’s iconic landmarks such as the Storey Bridge and The Conrad Treasury, and as the lights of the city spark up you’ll know it’s time to get ready and hit the town. So after those 15 minutes, run back to Travelodge and spruce up – you’re in Brisbane! For more information on The Wheel of Brisbane click here. |
