| Sydney’s Wild Side |
| When you think of Sydney, what comes to mind? The hustle and bustle of the main streets; the picturesque harbour; the stand-out icons of Sydney Tower, The Opera House and The Harbour Bridge; the vibrant, cosmopolitan city lifestyle. Well, we are guessing it is probably all of the above - however underneath all these amazing qualities of Sydney there’s a true wild-side that needs to be seen to be believed, and it’s all within a stone’s throw of the CBD so there’s no excuses. Imagine being able to experience first-hand all that you watch on a National Geographic show, Animal Planet or Totally Wild, right in the heart Australia’s largest city. Well what we’ve got in store this time is truly like jumping into an animal documentary, where some of the most unique species of Australia and the world are only an arm-length away - c’mon pack your water bottle, sunnies and camera, there’s a giraffe’s head framed by The Sydney Harbour Bridge just around the corner– seriously, we’re not kidding! Taronga Zoo is located only a short ferry ride from Circular Quay, just on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour. For only $44 (adult price), grab a Zoo Express ticket at the ferry wharf - this will get you a scenic boat-trip to and from the zoo, an epic sky-craft ride right over the top of the animals, and then entry into the zoo itself. You’re initial reaction will probably resemble something like this: “Wow, far-out – this is totally… well incredible. Here I am, high above the trees, with a view down one of the most picturesque waterways in the world, en route to witness some of the wildest animals this planet has to offer! Woohoo”. Taronga Zoo literally has everything an animal-lover could wish for. Highlights include the Aussie Nocturnal House and The Free Flight Bird Show. If you have never witnessed a bird show, then make sure you get to this one - it is incredible. With Sydney Harbour as a backdrop you can experience Australia’s largest bird, the mighty Wedge-Tailed Eagle, swooping above and around your head. Hold on to those sunnies, but don’t forget to take a picture or two! For overseas visitors, don’t think you’ll miss out on seeing some of Australia’s most famed-creatures even with a short stop over in Sydney - this zoo is the perfect place to knock out three birds with one stone – a photo of you on a Sydney Harbour ferry; a photo of you in front of Sydney Harbour; and a photo of you holding a Koala, with a Kangaroo next to you, all in front of Sydney Harbour, with a ferry just steaming past if you’re lucky – now how cool is that! There’s no doubt that your new found appreciation of the wildlife that call Australia home will be a rewarding experience, and we recommend a day trip to Taronga Zoo anytime. Just make sure you jump on that last ferry home otherwise you’ll have to get some tips from Skippy the kangaroo on how to make it back across the harbour – I’m sure she’ll help you out though.
