Shopping at the Sydney markets Travel Tip - Tim & Tim's Travel Tips | Travelodge Hotels travel tip

Sydney's Magic Markets!

Lets face it, everyone needs a good dose of shopping once in a while - whether it be gifts for that special someone back home, a keepsake for yourself, or even just to indulge in the wide variety of gourmet food, a good hit of wallet-wagging never goes astray.

And when you’re in town for only a couple of days then you don’t want to be trawling the city for that perfect shop. So lucky for you, Sydney-siders (as well as Brisbanites, Melbournians & Perthians for that matter) have developed the crazy and somewhat overwhelming Weekend Wonderland of tents, trinkets and tasty treats.

Paddington Markets (open every Saturday 10-4pm) are probably the trendy city’s best known and are also the most accessible. Located in Paddington (believe it or not) on the well known Oxford St., this hip market-place boasts over 250 stalls, with everything ranging from cutting edge contemporary art, chic jewellery and quirky fashion. So be sure to strut your style around these parts of town because you never know who’s watching.

If touristy goods are your thing then head to the city’s heart of settlement – The Rocks, and tackle the weekend warriors of Swedes, Germans and Japanese vying for the very best in Australiana. Open every Saturday & Sunday (10am – 5pm)
The Rocks Market caters for everything Australian - Australian magnets, Australian stubby-holders and even the good ‘ol Aussie dunny-door poster. It prides itself in being unique, high quality and authentically Australian.

For the beach-lover, then Sydney definitely has you covered. Choose between the city’s hippest beach-spots,
Bondi & Manly and you’re not going to be disappointed. Locally made jewellery, photo frames and the very best in headwear can be found at either of these spots. So take your wallet (or your mates) and head for the coast – just make sure you save enough money for the bus ride home!
