| Keen on Sport? Well check this out. |
| There is no doubt that sport is engrained in Australian culture - in fact we could be considered one of the most ‘sporty’ nations in the world. From the clothes we wear, the programs we watch on television, the destinations we visit and even the language we speak … ‘howzaaat!’ we are definitely an enthusiastic, sport-loving country. So it comes as no surprise that a cheeky footy match or cricket ‘one-dayer’ would some how slide into our agenda on a business or leisure trip to the capital cities of this country. From the round ovals of the Australian Football League; the social ring of a beach footy match, a game of pool at the pub or a surf at the local beach break, there are endless opportunities to get right out there amongst it! Melbourne has the well-famed Melbourne Cricked Ground (MCG) which holds many of Australia’s highest profile cricket and rugby competitions. An annual pilgrimage to catch a match at the MCG has almost become a life-long tradition for many Aussies and visitors from overseas – I mean sitting there, smack-bang in the middle of Australia’s second largest city, you can’t really miss it can you? Watch the countries best cricket leg spinners and rugby full-backs battle it out against the world’s best! However if you prefer sport on two wheels, then just outside Sydney each year you can cycle ‘Sydney to The Gong’, an invigorating trip past The Royal National Park and along the Grand Pacific Drive to Wollongong in the south. I would suggest some training before hand though! And for those of you who can’t resist the temptation to rip their shirts off, grab your best pair of ‘sluggos’, ‘togs’, ‘budgie-smugglers’, (or bikinis for the girls) and test your ball skills at many of the beach volleyball courts around. Manly & Tamarama beaches in Sydney are perfect, and I’ve heard those at Surfers Paradise are pretty damn fine too – c’mon you know you want to have a hit. Sydney also has the Olympic Stadium – a world class structure used for the 2000 Olympics that just can’t be missed! So when you’re planning your next visit to around Australia, keep in mind the time you’ll be travelling because you might find that extra afternoon free could provide you with a sporting moment you’ve always dreamed of! And even if you can’t make it to any of these mind-blowing destinations, there’s nothing really wrong with a game of backyard cricket and a BBQ is there? |
