DEVINE DARWIN DAY TRIP - TRYLITCHFIELDNATIONAL PARK!
Fancy a bit of adventure? Like a taste of true Aussie wildlife? How about a real nature experience only 90 minutes from the capital of one of Australia’s most eNTicing states? Well, get yourself to the LitchfieldPark in the country’s Northern Territory, just south of Darwin, and you can be guaranteed an awesome adventure! Don’t worry you can be back in the cosmopolitan hub of Australia’s Top End for dinner, even lunch if you have to, but we suspect you’ll be spending most of those daylight hours out and about in one of Australia’s most fascinating National Parks.
The LitchfieldNational Park covers a total area of 1500 square kilometres and is packed with a whole variety of native environments to explore. From lush monsoon forests, fields of impressive termite mounds to gushing cascades and waterfalls, it is a nature-lovers paradise.
A sealed road links all the major attractions of the park, so don’t worry too much if you don’t have a 4WD, however we do advise you take a packed lunch for those romantic picturesque locations along the way! Highlights include the Blyth Homestead built in the early 1900’s and the incredible waterfalls of Florence, Tolmer and Wangi, all in relative easy walking distance.
It’s all about timing your trip to the LitchfieldNational Park as to what you will encounter. From October through to May (the monsoon season), four gigantic waterfalls make their presence felt at every turn. Vantage points from the ground make for an awesome photo opportunity - so make sure you pack your trusty camera. However in the drier season the pools at the bottom of these waterfalls transform into lush waterholes, ideal for that well-needed dip to cool off.
Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the plethora of wildlife on offer too – crocodiles are common, especially in the wet season, and in the dry it’s the native birds - the wild cry of the many native species create real music to your ears.
So lose the iPod, grab your walking shoes, pack the sandwiches and head to the LitchfieldNational park– it’s an experience you’ll never forget!
